The Road to Rome
The Via Francigena is one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in Europe. It starts in Canterbury and goes all the way to Rome and onwards to Santa Maria di Leuca. The modern itinerary is based on the diary of Archbishop Sigeric of Canterbury, who in 990 walked to Rome and back to receive his palium from the Pope.
Approximately 100 km of its entire 3200km run through the Lunigiana region, offering lots of cultural and natural beauty to discover along the way.
