In between the Apennines mountain chain and the Ligurian Sea, the regions of Tuscany and Liguria are hiding a very well-kept secret: immersed in beautiful green sceneries and full of gorgeous medieval towns with impressive castles lies the Lunigiana territory.
The area, which takes its name from the ancient Roman settlement of Luni, has traces from human settlements dating back to the Paleolithic.
Contemporary Lunigiana has a wide variety of activities to offer its visitors. Whether you like cycling, hiking, relaxing on the beach, or visiting medieval towns with their castles: Lunigiana has it all!
It’s time to plan your trip to Lunigiana!
In this section you will find information on the nearest airports, the local train and bus network, and where best to eat and sleep.
Because of its geographical position between the Apennine mountains and the Apuan Alps, the infrastructure in this part of Tuscany is organized accordingly. A good preparation beforehand will help you enjoy and experience this marvelous area at its fullest.
Hi! My name is Myra, and I’m the face behind this website and behind the We Love Lunigiana project.
That’s right, no big company or marketing agency: just me, born and raised in the Netherlands but living in Italy since 2012.
I fell in love with the Lunigiana region while cycling and walking along the Via Francigena pilgrimage route that crosses the area. With this website and my project I hope to make these amazing lands more known to (foreign) visitors on the lookout for an authentic Italian experience.
